Cook Maran vice president and surety practice leader, Tom Niland, is responsible for new business development, serving clients and managing the surety department. He joined Cook, Hall & Hyde in 2005, prior to the 2012 merger that would result in Cook Maran & Associates. The agency was renamed Cook Maran in 2015.
Before that, Tom was a salesperson and bond manager at Ross & Company, where he strategically developed a book of business that included over 75 contractor accounts throughout Long Island, New Jersey, NY’s five boroughs, Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern Connecticut. During his employment, the company was acquired by Summit Bancorp, Fleet Boston Financial and finally, Bank of America.
Tom was previously a bond manager with Homestead Insurance Company, where he earned his property and casualty insurance license. Tom began his insurance career in 1986 as a financial analyst and underwriter with Southeastern Casualty and Indemnity. He is a graduate of Elmira College, where he was president of his class and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing.
Tom is a member of the Surety Association of New Jersey and served as the organization’s president in 2000. Active in youth sports, Tom is assistant coach for Apple Core travel hockey and previously served as head coach and skating instructor for the Long Beach Recreational House and head coach for Long Beach/Lido Beach little league baseball. Tom resides in Lido Beach, NY, with his wife, Tricia, and their three sons.Our Team Directory
