Steve Maietta is the executive vice president, commercial insurance at Cook Maran. Steve graduated from Rutgers University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In the same year, he began his career at Liberty Mutual as a Loss Prevention Rep, in East Orange, NJ. After several promotions, Steve transferred to Liberty’s Business Sales Department in 1980. Steve won numerous sales awards on his way to building and ultimately servicing a substantial book of business, focused on large commercial clients in New Jersey. In 1985 Steve was promoted to District Sales Manager in Philadelphia. In this new role he was responsible for hiring and training new salespeople as well as overseeing the solicitation and renewal of large commercial insurance clients in Eastern Pennsylvania.
In 1988 Steve left Liberty to become an insurance broker at Cook, Hall and Hyde in East Hampton, NY. Steve quickly built a large book of business centered on large complex commercial clients. In 1990, Steve was promoted to Sales Manager at CHH with responsibility for hiring and training new salespeople in addition to maintaining his existing clients.
In 1999, Steve and Vernon Falkenhan left Cook, Hall and Hyde to form Corporate Risk Associates, an insurance brokerage firm servicing large commercial risks on Long Island and in NYC. After doubling the firm’s revenue in 3 years, Corporate Risk Associates merged with Maran Associates to form Maran Corporate Risk Associates (MCRA) with Steve as its President and CEO. The new entity, MCRA, provided all forms of commercial and personal insurance to businesses and individuals on Long Island and in New York City. MCRA grew from a firm of 35 employees and $5m in revenue in 2003 to an agency with 60 employees and $10m in revenue in 2012 under his leadership.
Steve played an integral role in orchestrating the merger of Maran Corporate Risk Associates with Cook Hall & Hyde to create Cook Maran & Associates one of the nation’s 100 largest insurance brokers. As part of the 2012 merger, Steve assumed responsibility for all commercial operations. He is responsible for strategy, growth and profitability for Cook Maran’s largest business segment, one that has over 80 employees across 5 offices.
Steve resides in East Hampton, NY with his wife Claudia, and has 2 grown children. Like many of his partners at Cook Maran, Steve enjoys a good bottle of wine and working on his golf game. However, unlike any of his partners, Steve is an NFL owner- a stockholder in the Green Bay Packers.Our Team Directory
