As a senior vice president in Cook Maran’s employee benefits division, Patrick F. McDermott advises employers on group health, life and disability benefits plans, funding methods, cost containment, flexible benefits, state and federal compliance issues and on how to effectively communicate benefit plans to employees. Pat utilizes his extensive work experience and his nearly three decades as a hospital board trustee to better serve his clients and maintain successful relationships with insurance carriers.
Pat assumed his current position when Cook Maran merged with McDermott & Thomas Associates, LLC, of which he was a founding member. Prior to that, he was a partner in the Maloy Group Inc., where he served as the employee benefits group division manager and property and casualty group sales manager. Pat began his insurance career in 1973 as a sales representative specializing in estate and financial planning at Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company.
A St. John’s University graduate, he earned chartered life underwriter (CLU) and chartered financial consultant (ChFC) designations from the American College.
Pat is married with three grown children and five grandchildren and lives on Lighthouse Hill in Staten Island, where he remains active within the community. Chairman of the board of the College of Staten Island Foundation and trustee of the Northwell Health System, he also serves as the chairman of the national board of directors of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
