As senior vice president of Cook Maran, Mark H. Thomas specializes in advising employers on group health, life and disability benefit programs. Mark, who joined Cook Maran when McDermott & Thomas Associates became its Prime Risk Partner, has served clients as an employee benefits adviser since 1982. He assists with plan design, cost containment, employee communications, voluntary benefits, HRIS systems and state and federal compliance issues.
Prior to founding McDermott & Thomas Associates in 1987, Mark worked for McDermott Planning Associates for four years. He began his career as a sales representative for Maloy Group in Staten Island.
Mark holds life and health insurance licenses in over 20 states and has served on numerous insurance company advisory committees, including Guardian Life, Oxford Health Plans and Aetna. He holds a registered health underwriter (RHU) designation and is an active member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). He is currently enrolled in the American College chartered life underwriter (CLU) and the chartered healthcare consultant (ChHC) designation programs.
Additionally, he has served as chairperson of the education, training and compliance committee for United Benefit Advisers (UBA), an alliance of the nation’s premier independent benefit advisory firms, and on the board of directors of the New York City Life Underwriters Association.
A Wagner College graduate with a bachelor’s in business administration, Mark is president of The Friends of Amanda Foundation, a nonprofit organization that fund raises and advocates on behalf of children who are neglected or are victims of domestic abuse.
Mark is married to his wife Debbie for over 35 years and has two married sons. He lives in Clark, NJ and enjoys boating, fishing and playing golf in his spare time.Our Team Directory
