Cook Maran vice president of safety and risk control Daniel H. “Shep” Shepardson provides clients with customized safety and risk control initiatives that help improve their overall risk profile. In this role, he acts as a liaison between Cook Maran, insurance carriers, and clients, conducting audits and surveys to identify key risk factors then developing client-specific service plans, presentations, training materials and compliance audits to address them effectively.
Shep is dedicated to forming long-lasting client relationships built on trust, an open-door policy, and individualized attention. He is also dedicated to further developing Cook Maran’s risk control service model and creating a new safety and risk control database for the broker’s products and services.
A Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Shep brings 16 years of industry experience to his role. His specialties include OSHA compliance and occupational safety, environmental engineering, risk control, medical directing, substance abuse programs, industrial hygiene, workers’ compensation, emergency response, and all FMCSA/Department of Transportation programs, all of which he managed as a risk control consultant or company director/manager.
Prior to joining Cook Maran in 2019, Shep spent five years with the Philadelphia Media Network, where he was director of safety & risk management, environmental director, medical director, substance abuse program coordinator, and DOT program coordinator. Before that, he was senior loss control consultant at Conner Strong & Buckelew, following eight years as EH&S engineer, EH&S manager, and waste coordinator at Johnson Matthey Inc. He began his career as a safety supervisor and industrial hygienist at Air Quality Solutions.
Shep is a member of the board of Certified Safety Professionals, American Society of Safety Professionals, American Industrial Hygienists Association, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, and National Fire Protection Association. He graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a degree in occupational safety and environmental engineering.Our Team Directory
